Hot Apple Cider recipe!Ok, so it’s cold outside… that means it’s officially Fall right?  I hope so because that means hot apple cider will be an almost permanent fixture on my stove 🙂 It’s one of my favorite treats in the chilly months!  And of course it doubles as a warm delightful drink and the best natural potpourri for your house you could ask for!  It’s also not too bad with a shot of brandy in it either 😉

I make my recipe with apple cider… now yes, you can use apple juice, but it is a little different.  “Fresh cider is raw apple juice that has not undergone a filtration process to remove coarse particles of pulp or sediment…  Apple juice is juice that has been filtered to remove solids and pasteurized so that it will stay fresh longer.” – Massachusetts Department of Agriculture

Hot Apple Cider

2 quarts apple cider or juice

1 orange peel

1 lemon peel

1 teaspoon whole cloves

1 cinnamon stick

3 star anise

In a pot on medium low heat, combine all the ingredients and bring to a simmer.  Reduce heat and let the flavors combine.  You can leave on low heat on your stove for 20 minutes or most of the day.  Serve warm.
