Los Angeles Ladies Who Blog Cocktail Party

By Leslie · Comments (10) · August 29th, 2011

As promised here are the photos from the cocktail party I threw for some of my favorite bloggers in Los Angeles.  Since it was such a beautiful warm Summer evening, I hosted it in my backyard.  As the ladies entered I had them write name tags for themselves (since some of us had not met yet) and put their names in a bowl for the raffle :)

Blog_party_17 We had plenty of sips and nibbles.  Sips provided by Veev Vodka and CalNaturale wines :)   I chose to serve 2 cocktails, red wine, white wine, lemonade and water.  The cocktails were Veev acai mojitos and super yummy sangria made with the Veev vodka and CalNaturale's cabernet sauvignon.  The sangria was my personal favorite :)

Blog_party_16I made some nibbles for the ladies to snack on.  I made a big cheese board with cotswold cheese, stilton with dried apricots, white cheddar, double cream brie and swiss cheese.  In the background are grilled zucchini roll-ups with goat cheese.

Blog_party_35I made two kinds of tarts.  (recipes coming this week!)  Mushroom and leek with thyme:

Blog_party_28And I wanted to make one more, so I reached in the garden and picked an eggplant, some tomatoes, and basil and made another one :)

I did a few sweets too.  My secret rum cake, chocolate cupcakes, and salted chocolate chip cookies.

As you saw in the earlier post, I went with purple and yellow flowers.  I tied all the vases with some purple ribbon I scored at costco on a shopping trip with my Mom.  Who knew they had fabulous deals on ribbon?!  I guess they have fabulous deals on everything.

I set out one table with all of the items that were in the gift bags so the ladies could check out the items.  And I raffled off those beautiful Namaste bags and a gift bag from Scotch Naturals.

Blog_party_122Speaking of gift bags, look how pretty the bags look!

Blog_party_3Thank you again to all of our fabulous sponsors!!  Thank you Planet Salon, Namaste, CalNaturale Wines, Veev Vodka, Svelte, Clearly Fresh Bags, Popsalot Popcorn, Bakluvit Baklava, Best Friends, Gluten Free Goddess, Volcanica Candles, and Metromint Water.  And I have to thank the incredibly talented Adam Hendershott for photographing the party!  You can see more of his work here on his website.

It was a great party! I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!  Have you had a blogger meet-up in your town?  I'd love to hear about it!

Girls Night at Flavor of India

By Leslie · Comments (4) · November 2nd, 2010

Girls nights are so fun and so important.  It's a great opportunity to get together, catch up and spend quality time together.  This particular girls night was organized by my good friend Fiona (ps you can catch her on the new FX show Wilfred next year!)  We all love Indian food so she spoke to the owner of one of our favorite Indian restaurants in Los Angeles Flavor of India and convinced him to let us do a cooking class there.  So fun!!

Check out the gorgeous spices!:

The owner Chef Darshan walked us through how to make some of our favorite Indian dishes and gave us his personal recipes!  Here he is with interacting and teaching us how to make Indian Tea.

Here is Fiona getting a lesson on how to make Malia Kofta (a fried vegetable ball):

Party3And of course I had to get in on the action!  Check me out making Chana Masala (chickpeas in a tomato sauce) with Darshan:

Party2The night was fantastic and the food even better!  The restaurant is located in West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd and is so quaint, romantic and comfy!  Darshan makes everyone feel like they are at home!  I'll be posting some of the recipes, but if you are nearby, I highly suggest getting over to the restaurant and trying it for yourself!  Make sure you order the began bhartha (smashed roasted eggplant with tomatoes and onions), malia kofta (veggie balls in a creamy tomato sauce) and tofu tikka masala (tofu in a saffon tomato sauce) and don't forget the garlic naan!  Those are some of my favorites, but honestly everything at this restaurant is fabulous!

Party1Here are the girls with Darshan.  We had such a great time.  Darshan now does Indian cooking classes for groups with a minimum of 8 people so give them a call to set up your next party!

And if you don't live in LA, call up your favorite local restaurant and see if they'll do a class for your group.  Chances are they will and you'll have a ton of fun!

xoxo
