Guys, I’m thrilled to announce the launch of my new company Little Shirties!
Little Shirties whales are made from landfill bound fabrics. When you donate your used clothes, most people don’t know where they really end up. The reality is that a lot of them end up going to the dump. Here is a great article if you are interested in this topic: What Really Happens To Your Donated Clothing We are intercepting some of this landfill bound fabric, sterilizing it, and creating these adorable and lovable stuffed animals. Meet Winston the Whale, our debut character! Because we are using so many different fabrics, each and every whale is unique and original. When we ship you a whale we like to think that he chooses you
I partnered with my good friend Bob Paluzi for this special project. Bob owns a factory in Texas and has been making premium denim since 1979. He also has a passion for the environment and putting Americans to work. Bob loves the idea of upcycling disposable fashion into cherished kids toys!
I am a vegan chef by trade and eco fashionista by passion and wanted to create a way to rescue the shocking amount of fabrics going to the landfill. After months and many ideas later, I woke up one morning in Venice beach, California to see a humpback whale swimming near the shore. “A light went off in my head and I said yes! Stuffed animal whales!” Winston the Whale was created not just to use otherwise discarded fabrics, but to bring attention to conserving our oceans. Part of the proceeds of each sale will go towards beach cleanup in Southern California.
Since Little Shirties started in January 2015 we have already stopped over 1800 pounds of fabrics from going to the landfill. 12 million pounds end up in US dumps every year. We have a long way to go to save it all, but with your help we can make a big dent. Purchase a whale and give this fabric new life!
