Wine Wednesday: La Corte Moscato d' Asti Preludio

By Leslie · Comments (0) · February 9th, 2011

When planning your Valentines day menu, why not really kick it up with a separate wine to go with your dessert?  Trust me, you'll thank me for this advice later!

Today I was at my favorite wine shop in Los Angeles, K & L Wines.  They also have a super extensive website that you can order from.  I went in looking for my favorite mostcato the Tintero.  To my horror, they were out!  Jeremy (definitely ask for Jeremy if you go!) swiftly guided me to the Preludio that they had just brought in from Italy.  It is fabulous!

1111winwIt's a sweet and sparkling dessert wine.  It is divine and will pair so well with your dessert!  I highly recommend having it with Butterscotch Budino!  At $9.99 it will add the perfect touch to your perfect night!

Here is the link to buy it online : )  Preludio

Wine Wednesday: Santa Ynez Valley Winery Sauvignon Blanc

By Leslie · Comments (0) · January 19th, 2011

1111wineCheers to Wine Wednesday!  I'm not going to lie. . . it's days like this that I'm so happy to live in Southern California.  It's 80 degrees and I'm writing this post while getting a tan by the pool.  So sorry to tell all of you east coasters this because I know your stuck in like 10 feet of snow!

So with the warm weather, today I chose a white wine for Wine Wednesday.  This is a Sauvignon Blanc from the Santa Ynez Valley in California.  It was super fresh, crisp and yummy!  It had a nice fruity bite to it which made it perfect for a beautiful day.

Though I can't remember how much I paid for this wine, I bought it at Trader Joe's so I know it was affordable.

Enjoy!

Wine Wednesday: Sin Zin

By Leslie · Comments (0) · December 1st, 2010

Sin Zin is a deeeeelicious zinfandel from the Alexander Valley.  It's perfectly smooth and goes down a little too easily. . . At $14.99 it's a great price point!  My favorite wine shop K & L wine describes this wine to perfection:

"This is one of those wines you buy for the label, then buy again because it's a well-priced everyday drinker. Always robust, this 25th anniversary release is brimming with briar fruit, vanilla spice and voluptuous tannins."

I have to thank my cousins Christy and Gina for bringing this wine over for Thanksgiving!  PS we had a great time!

1111wineYou can find this at most of your local supermarkets or you can click here to find it online.

Wine Wednesday: Middle Sister Pinot Noir

By Leslie · Comments (2) · November 24th, 2010

With Thanksgiving tomorrow, I decided to recommend a wine that would be perfect with your feast!  This wine is cute, kitchy, and surprisingly delish!  It's light and smooth so it'll go great with everything you're making.  Middle Sister has the most adorable labels and of course me being a middle sister, I doubly love this wine.

Another great thing about this wine, the price!  $10.99!  It makes a great gift this holiday season.  And where do you find it you may ask, of all places, Target.  No, I'm not kidding, I bought this wine a Target!  They also donate a percentage to women's charities.  How cool is that?

So enjoy!!

Wine Wednesday: HEY MAMBO

By Leslie · Comments (1) · October 13th, 2010

Ok people, tonight we are doing a real time blog.  Which means yes, it's Wednesday evening and yes, I'm drinking this fabulous wine as we speak (I apologize ahead of time for any spelling errors)

Wine

Sorry I got a little creative with my picture tonight, but I'm trying out all new places to stage my photos in the new place : )  That's our pool, it's so pretty!

This wine is called "Hey Mambo" which to be honest with you is why it caught my eye.  The labels states a "sultry" "bistro style wine" and that it is.  A great drinking wine, as my father would describe it.  It's full bodied while still being smooth and has a hint of fruit.  Very yummy!  And the best part, I found it on sale for $7.99!!!  But the regular price is still only $9.49.  I definitely rank this wine very high for such a wonderful price point.
Definitely keep an eye out for Hey Mambo and grab it for your next fabulous Italian meal!

I found this bottle on K & L wine, one of my favorite shops and sites!  They sell it for $8.99

xoxo

Wine Wednesday : )

By Leslie · Comments (0) · August 25th, 2010

This week I found our wine wednesday pick at Whole Foods Market.  Our Whole Foods has a fabulous wine selection!  They also have a large variety of organic and sustainable wines.  I picked this one for that reason and because it was $11.99!

6a012876272fb6970c013486728f01970c-800wi
Aliento del Sol means "spirit of the sun".  Pretty cool huh?

I really liked this wine!  It was smooth and very flavorful like a good pinot noir should be and could be described as my Dad likes to describe wines as "a good drinking wine".  I always loved when he said this but I never knew what he meant until I started drinking wine.

I paired it for dinner with steaks and my mac n' cheese.  It worked really well.

So be on the lookout for Aliento del Sol pinot noir and pick it up if you get a chance!

A salud!

Wine Wednesday: Inception

By Leslie · Comments (3) · June 23rd, 2010

Inception wine that is! : )  It's not very often I get to say, "my friend made me a great bottle of wine".  Actually, it's more like never.  But this is the one exception.  My wonderful friend Dawn Marie is married to a wine maker!  How cool is that?!  And to top it off, the wine is Ah-Maze-Ing!!

6a012876272fb6970c0134884d2866970c-500wiSo, this pinot noir is so classic!  All the things I love!  It filled your mouth with that rich, delicious flavor and finished smooth and fabulous!  There is a wonderful berry taste!

Inception will set you back about $30 but it's worth every penny!

You can find Inception if you are in the Los Angeles area at John and Pete's, Froma, Greenblatts, Mission Wines (in Pasadena) and The Cheese Store Beverly Hills

You can order it at these restaurants: Cut, Spago, The grill, Wilshire, Moonshadows, The Biltmore (Santa Barbara), Nonna, Bardot, Voyeur, and Street

If you get a chance, try it!  You won't regret it!

Wine Wednesday!

By Leslie · Comments (1) · April 14th, 2010

Welcome to a new addition to lesliesarna.com!  Every "Wine Wednesday" I'll be recommending one of my favorite bottles!  So here is my first recommendation:

6a012876272fb6970c01347fdc3753970c-800wi
This wine is dee-lish!  And on top of that it is organic and biodynamic, which is always a plus!  This bottle needed to breath for a few minutes, but was soooo good once realized!  I would recommend this bottle for Italian food or a steak.  It's light, smooth and has a nice fruity finish.   I found this bottle at our local Pavilions (same as Vons) It was on sale from $19.99 to $9.99!  And for a bottle under $10, I highly recommend!  Here is the website is you'd like to learn a little more.  Patianna

22. What to do with Leftover Wine

By Leslie · Comments (1) · November 9th, 2009

Wine glasses.JPG

It’s a rare circumstance in my house, but yes, I do find myself with leftover wine sometimes. : )  Most wines are ok to drink the following day, but much past that, they are usually pretty hard to get down.  So what to do?  My favorite and one of the easiest to do is to cook with it.  Now if you have a lot of leftover open wine, from say a party, you can freeze it!  Oh yes you can!!  I freeze wine in an ice cube tray and when it’s frozen place the cubes in a ziploc bag.  You can keep these forever!  Please do note, this method is to use the wine for future cooking purposes, NOT DRINKING!
When I have red wine, the number one place it goes is into tomato sauce.  It uses about a 1/2 cup of wine.  Another great thing to do is to make a red wine reduction sauce.  I like it over a baked potato or roasted potatoes.
When I have white wine, I love making risotto with it!  So yummy!
Wine can also be added to soups and stews.  If you are really adventurous you can make wine jelly.

Leslie’s Red Wine Reduction Sauce

1 shallot, chopped

1 garlic clove, chopped

olive oil

1 cup red wine

1 tsp. agave nectar

Saute the garlic and shallots in olive oil till soft.  Add the wine and cook for about 5 minutes or until the wine has been reduced to a quarter of what it was.  Stir in the agave.  Spoon over your potatoes.

So don’t throw your wine away!  Use it the next day! : )
