Ok, so it’s cold outside… that means it’s officially Fall right? I hope so because that means hot apple cider will be an almost permanent fixture on my stove It’s one of my favorite treats in the chilly months! And of course it doubles as a warm delightful drink and the best natural potpourri for your house you could ask for! It’s also not too bad with a shot of brandy in it either 😉
I make my recipe with apple cider… now yes, you can use apple juice, but it is a little different. “Fresh cider is raw apple juice that has not undergone a filtration process to remove coarse particles of pulp or sediment… Apple juice is juice that has been filtered to remove solids and pasteurized so that it will stay fresh longer.” – Massachusetts Department of Agriculture
Hot Apple Cider
2 quarts apple cider or juice
1 orange peel
1 lemon peel
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
3 star anise
In a pot on medium low heat, combine all the ingredients and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and let the flavors combine. You can leave on low heat on your stove for 20 minutes or most of the day. Serve warm.
