My Favorite Sunny Spot :: Leslie Durso

It’s about time I write about my favorite vegan restaurant in Los Angeles… People always ask and here’s my answer: Sun Cafe. It’s a vegan (mostly raw) restaurant on Cahuenga Blvd. right before you get to “the valley”. Sun Cafe is a bright star in a city filled with mediocre vegan restaurants. I bring a ton of people here and every time it gets rave reviews not just from my veggie friends, but from my meatie friends too. It not only has some of the most creative vegan food out there, but by far the tastiest! When you are preparing raw food you have to be so careful about the flavor combos; it’s very easy to let one ingredient over power the rest and Sun Cafe creates flavor profiles that are virtually effortless. Now I’ve had just about everything on the menu so let me share some of the stars:

The Lettuce Leaf Tacos:

These tacos are filled with their “SunChorizo” which is just about the best stuff ever, avocado, pico de gallo, and covered in their basil ranch sauce… a great way to start your meal!

The pizzas:

Behold! The only raw pizza worth eating! Sun Cafe offers you the option of a raw crust or cooked… trust me, go with the raw! This is the Pesto Pizza, but you cannot go wrong in ordering any of them This one is topped with pesto, marinated mushrooms, tomato, olives, marinated onions and cashew cheese. You get a choice of sides with a lot of the entrees, but I recommend the kale salad.

A special item:

The day I took these pictures, macaroni and cheese was a special on the menu, so I thought I’d give a try. This cooked dish was pretty yummy! The yummiest part was the super creamy nut cheese! Definitely a good item, but if you’re making your first trip to Sun Cafe try their raw food first. Some of my other favorite items are the Sweet Kale Shake, the Pad Thai, and Sun Nachos.

AND you cannot leave Sun Cafe without ordering my favorite dessert of all time! Now let me be more specific… this is not just my favorite raw dessert, or my favorite vegan dessert, this is my favorite dessert period. It’s the chocolate cheesecake:
