Waffles and Ice Cream

By Leslie

Waffles and ice cream have been a tradition in my family for generations.  When my Grandparents were dating, they used to go to the movies, then go out for waffles and ice cream.  Well, luckily for us, my grandparents passed this tradition down.  In fact, some of my fondest childhood memories included my Dad making us dinner because we knew odds were it would be waffles and ice cream!  It's one of the simplest, most delightful things I make.  Whenever I'm in a sad mood, this comforting meal cheers me up instantly!  So thank you Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa for this dish!

There is a place where I go to the beach that makes the most amazing waffles and ice cream! I don’t know why I never think to make it myself.

Hi Leslie – did your dad ever tell you how the waffles and ice cream tradition got started when we were growing up? We’d go to church on Sunday and then have an early afternoon family dinner. As you know, the Durso dinners are “generous” to say the least. That said, we would start to get hungry again by 7-8PM. That’s when your Grandparents would break out the waffle iron and ice cream. As you can imagine, it was one of my favorite meals growing up. Love to all…Uncle Bobby
