Bowtie Pasta Crunchies

By Leslie
·
October 4th, 2010

These are one of my favorite snacks!  Yes, they are fried, yes they are salty, yes they are delicious, and yes, they are addictive!  My Grandmother made a version of these and me and my siblings always loved them!  So how do you make these delectable treats you ask?  They are so simple!  Here you go:

Bowtie Pasta Crunchies

What you’ll need:

1 lb. bowtie pasta

the juice of 1 lemon

a handful of parmesan cheese (optional)

kosher salt to taste

What you’ll do:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add in the bowties and a handful of salt.  Cook halfway.  Drain.

Working in batches, transfer some bowties into about 1/2 cup hot vegetable oil.

6a012876272fb6970c0133f4d69ce5970b-800wi

When the edges get golden, flip.  Remove once golden on both sides.  This process is very fast.  Careful not to burn yourself : )

6a012876272fb6970c0133f4d69fec970b-800wi

When they are golden remove from the pan and immediately toss with some salt, lemon and parmesan.  Repeat the process till they are all fried.

These can be served immediately or within a couple days.

Enjoy!

They really do sound like an addictive snack. How about using whole wheat pasta? I guess the frying might negate that, eh? LOL

Colleen and Toni, I would bake at 350 for about 10-20 minutes depending on how much you fried them. Please let me know how it goes :)

This is a wonderful snack idea. We dont like parmesan cheese so I think I will try this with ranch or chili seasoning, what do ya think?

Hi, thought I’d let you know that I tried these but did them a little differently.
Once I had cooked them half way, I spread them out onto a baking tray, sprayed them with some oil and baked them in my oven. I turned them half way through, gave them a quick spray and then they were done. turned out just as good, but slightly more healthy.
Hope you don’t mind me telling you this.

What oven temp did you use and for how long? I love the baking option. I have several food allergies and not alot of “crunchy” snack options so I definetely want to try this!!

Just made these before work…quick! and soooo good. I made mine with mini bow ties and added some garlic to the frying oil. I seasoned with crushed red pepper flakes, parmesian, sea salt and paprika. They are not going to last long!!! I will be making some more tonight!
