Italian Americans celebrate Christmas Eve with "The Feast of Seven Fishes". This is for the celebration of the "wait" till midnight.
Traditionally, you never eat "meat" on Christmas Eve. And this is how you get to 7: The traditional Biblical number for divinity is three and Earth is four, and the combination of these numbers, seven, represents God on Earth, or Jesus Christ.
So, here is our menu:
Shrimp Cocktail
Ahi Tuna Sushi
Octopus Salad
Calamari Arrabiata (flash fried calamari topped with a spicy tomato sauce)
Muscles, Steamed
Linguine and Clams
Fish Platter
So start a tradition in your family from your heritage. It makes the meal that much more special!
Happy Christmas Eve!
