My Favorite Gadgets and Gizmos!

By Leslie

Happy Sunday everyone!
Today is all about gadgets and gizmos!  Which ones do you really need?  There are sooooo many gadgets on the market out there, how are you to know if you should get ever single one?!

Here is the major rule: A. ask yourself how often you make the item it's used for.  (Do you really need a egg dicer if you only eat eggs every blue moon?)  B. Does it have multiple functions?  and C. do I have room to store this? (you may really want a salad spinner, but do you have a place to put it?)  D. Can a knife do the same thing faster? (avocado slicers may seem cool, but in my experience, they never line up right and you end up wasting some avocado and with their prices these days, I'd rather use a knife)
Here are some of my favorites!

   fd_kitchenaid

The kitchenaid.  These are pricey, but undeniably the most used tool in my kitchen.  It's on the larger size so make sure you have room for it!  I use this for all my baking needs and I bake a lot!  I also have the ice cream attachment and pasta rolling attachments and use those all the time too!  I used to look down on people that didn't roll out their pasta dough by hand, but since I got this my dough has never been more perfect!

immersion tools

Immersion Blender.  I spoke before about my immersion blender for making soup and sauces.  It does that better than anything, but most also come with a few other attachments that are pretty awesome too!  The whisk attachment is fab and the chopper is amazing for onions, garlic, salsa, tapanades, etc.  This is really a wonderful tool to have in your arsenal.
Silpat-Nonstick-Silicone-Baking-Mat

The baking mat.  This one is by silpat; mine is from Crate and Barrel.  Such amazing technology!  Put this on your counter and you can easily roll out cookies, dough, pizza, anything!  So awesome!

The duster.  This is a multi use tool.  You can fill it with flour and use it to dust your pans, pizza peels and dough.  Or you can fill it with powdered sugar and decorate dessert plates like a pro!  One of my favorite things to do it to set a doily on a cake and use the duster to sprinkle powdered sugar over it.  Remove the doily and you have a beautifully decorated cake with hardly any effort!  You'll love this tool!  You can find this one at pamperedchef.com

The mini spatula.  So great for the smaller baked goods.  Perfect for lifting brownies or rectangular cake pieces out!  Again, this is from pamperedchef.com
autumn

Here is Autumn with one of her favorite tools.  It's a garlic peeler.  You put the garlic in the tube, roll it on a cutting board and the skin just falls off.  This is a small tool, so you probably have a place for it in your tool jar.
Feel free to share your favorite tools!
